Kanna Effects

Kanna is the most common English name for the plant Sceletium tortuosum, a small succulent native to South Africa. Kanna has long been famed for it's mood-altering effects, and was traditionally chewed, brewed into a tea or smoked. These days Kanna is now available as a standardized Kanna Extract.

The effects of Kanna vary depending upon the dosage and upon other factors such as whether you have taken other substances, including alcohol. In general most people take Kanna as a daily supplement to reduce stress and anxiety and promote calmness and wellbeing. At lower doses the effects of Kanna include mild relaxation, a reduction in stress, calmness, increased happiness and improved ability to sleep.

Because the effects of Kanna vary significantly depending upon how much you take, some people use Kanna as a legal party drug.* At higher doses the effects of Kanna include feelings of euphoria, major alterations in perception and inebriation, leading to a sedative-like after effect that lasts for some time. Despite some reports to the contrary, Kanna is not a hallucinogen.

Kanna is also thought to be a potentiator of other substances such as alcohol, cannabis and other drugs (meaning that it enhances their effects). Because of this property mixing Kanna with other substances - including alcohol - is not advised. There have been many reports of people becoming surprisingly drunk after only a few drinks when taking Kanna, and of it also having an unfortunate tendency to exacerbate hangovers as well as drunkenness!

Whatever the reason you choose to take Kanna Extract you should always be wary of taking too much, and of mixing it with other things. With caution, you can enjoy Kanna's effects and add a little extra stress-relief and happiness to your life.
